Hana, Social Worker at Momentum Children's Charity with new artwork

Artist, Helen Cammock, who is a former social worker, has designed a new work to celebrate the profession during Social Work Week (16-20 March). Titled ‘Social Work Happens Here,’ the commission illustrates a powerful poem Helen wrote after speaking with social workers. The plaque-style artwork is displayed on the outside of our building, on Creek Road, East Molesey.

The plaques are part of the national ‘Change the Script’ campaign led by Social Work England – the regulator for social workers in England – which aims to highlight the positive difference social workers make, reflect the reality of social workers’ important roles and promote the positive impact they have.

Talking about the commission, Helen Cammock said: “The art piece celebrates the profession, its varied nature, the skills of the people in it and the transformative impact it makes to people’s lives. I had the privilege of speaking to social workers in a variety of roles to provide inspiration for the artwork. The social work profession has an enduring presence committed to care, support, and protection but this new work also acknowledges the challenges faced by the profession and individual social workers. It is an acknowledgement of the commitment and constancy of social workers – seen or unseen.”

Hana Najsrova, Momentum’s Senior Social Worker said: “I am proud to be associated with Social Work England’s ‘Change the Script’ campaign. For too long, narrative about social workers hasn’t been overly positive. Social work is a beautiful profession and something that is much needed in society – we should value it. Sometimes, people may not realise the depth of expertise we bring, people only see the outcomes of decisions, not the depth of analysis that goes into working with families. I feel proud to be able to have the plaque in front of our building to let all the people passing by know that social work happens here.”

Talking about her role at Momentum, Hana added: “Every day, I have the privilege of witnessing the extraordinary strength, resilience and courage of the children and families we support. It is nothing short of humbling and inspiring, professionally, and personally.”

Momentum would like to thank The Brothers’ Trust for their generous support in helping to fund our social work service.
