Meticulously organised by former strongman competitor, 2024 WHEA England’s 2nd Master’s (over 40s) Peter Hibberd, the fundraiser involved 48 men and women.

The event saw teams of two positioned side-by-side as they gave it everything, moving a 25-ton lorry a distance of 20 metres. The competition was made up of three tough events – a rope and harness pull, a push from the back of the lorry, and an arm over arm pull.

Event organiser, Peter, got into the spirit of the day, sporting a cheerleading outfit, a forfeit he had promised to make if the team raised £5,000, which they did! His friend Joe Sutton, Britain’s natural strongest man, also joined him in dressing up!

Talking about the event, Peter Hibberd said: “It was a brilliant day with a great atmosphere. I would like to thank everyone who took part and everyone who has generously donated to our fundraising page. Special thanks also to Horley Town Football Club, Tone Scaffolding, Martin Cee, the voice of Ultimate Strongman, Andrew Flynn, UK’s strongest man, and Joe Sutton, WHEA UK’s strongest man, who all gave up their time to help on the day and make the event extra special.”

The competition featured three categories: Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed. In the Men’s division, Team PMA Therapy made up of George Penfold and Dan Buckingham, secured first place. The Women’s category was topped by Team RAC, represented by Charlotte Hall and Vanessa Rolfe. In the Mixed group, Team Back the Truck Up, made up of Laura Aniscough and Stephen Millyard, who claimed the top spot.

Talking about why he chose to fundraise for Momentum, Peter said: “A friend of mine very sadly lost his baby five weeks before it was due to be born. At the time, it didn’t feel right to buy a gift or a candle, so I decided to do a truck-pull instead. This is the fourth time the event has taken place, and I raise money for a different charity every year.”

Peter continued: “I first heard about Momentum when I saw volunteers from the charity doing a bucket collection after a pantomime. I went onto their website, found out more, and realised it was a very worthy cause. It transpires that a friend of my grandson’s sadly passed away from cancer when he was just six years old, and his family were supported by Momentum.”

Peter and his team of truck-pullers have raised more than £6,000 to date – amazing! If you would like to sponsor them, please visit their fundraising page here
