A smiling family of four, supported by Momentum Children's Charity, pose together indoors. A woman holds a baby girl dressed in pink, while two boys stand beside them, one cradling a white French Bulldog. A Momentum Family Support Worker in a green Momentum hoodie stands smiling with the family.

Furry participants and their owners are invited to gather at Miss Polly’s Café in East Molesey, Surrey, at 10:00am on Sunday 10 May to grab a bowl of fresh water, or a coffee, ahead of setting off on the hour-long walk.

There is plenty of free parking on local roads, or at Hurst Meadows Car Park (KT8 9BF) to ensure a stress-free start to the walk.

Leading the pack will be our CEO, Sarah Woods, along with her cockapoo, Woody. The pair are regulars on the local trails and can’t wait to catch up with as many supporters as possible on the day.

The event is not designed to assess fitness levels, but to enjoy the Spring weather, taking in the beautiful backdrop of the River Thames as walkers stroll together with their dogs, along the towpath to Hurst Park and back.

All breeds and walking techniques are welcome – whether you and your dog like to amble, trudge, prance, trot, we expect a sea of wagging tails and eager paws!

Kirsty’s eldest son, Charlie, 14, was diagnosed with a brain tumour at just 11 months old. Since then, he has been in and out of treatment, with the whole family receiving ongoing support from Momentum. Ted, their French Bulldog, became part of their family five years ago.

Talking about how Ted has supported the family during some of their most difficult times, Kirsty said:

“Ted arrived on Charlie’s birthday, and Ted’s birthday is the same day and month that we received Charlie’s diagnosis, which has always made it feel as though he was meant to find his way to us. He’s wonderful with the children, and during the times when Charlie was particularly unwell, Ted seemed to sense it instinctively. He would curl up beside him, making Charlie feel relaxed.”

For families like Charlie’s, the hardest days are made a little softer by the love of a pet. But they also need practical support from charities like Momentum. We provide counselling, sibling support, therapies, and hands-on help for families across London, Surrey and Sussex, from the moment of diagnosis and for as long as we’re needed. Money raised from this event will ensure we can continue to be there.

There is a £10 registration fee to take part in the walk, covering up to two dogs.

You are welcomed to fundraise and gather sponsorship for the walk, and if you raise £50 or more, you will win a custom rosette and a dog toy.

There will be complimentary treats on hand to keep four-legged walkers motivated, plus a charity raffle with fantastic prizes up for grabs to help boost the fundraising total.

A route map and additional details will be sent to all participants by email, ahead of the event.
