We had one team rowing for Momentum – the ‘Oarful Ladies’, made up of brilliant local mums from Claygate. Everyone got into the spirit of the day, proudly sporting our bright green t-shirts with matching headbands, wristbands, and fun face-paint.

So far, the ‘Oarful Ladies’ have raised more than £1,000 for Momentum – brilliant!

The annual event, hosted by Dragon Boat Events Ltd, brought Canbury Gardens to life as 48 teams battled it out in thrilling 200-metre dragon boat races. The event featured three heats, with teams growing more competitive, shaving seconds off their times with each race. Sadly, our team didn’t make it to the finals as they were up against stiff competition from more seasoned paddlers!

Dragon Boating sees teams competing in canoe-like vessels fitted with ornately carved dragon’s heads and tails. Each boat has a drummer beating time to keep the paddlers in unison, and a professional helmsperson in the stern to guide the boat.

Aside from the dragon boat racing, there was a funfair, refreshment stalls, cultural performances, and games – it was a fun day with a great atmosphere!
