Kat Ewers, Momentum’s Director of Fundraising and Engagement, is diving headfirst into a seriously muddy challenge as she has signed up for the London South Tough Mudder, alongside her husband, brother, and sister-in-law.

Talking about taking on the hardcore obstacle course, designed to test all-around strength, stamina, and mental grit, Kat said:

“The Tough Mudder is the weekend of my husband’s 40th birthday, and for some mad reason he thought that it would be a great way to celebrate, so we signed up! My family already know a lot about the charity, so when Move for Momentum was announced, it just made sense that we would fundraise for them.

“Weirdly I am more worried about the running than the obstacles, so have been focusing on building up to running 15km. I already do quite a lot of strength training at the gym, which I am hoping will help with the obstacles. During my training I have mostly been listening to podcasts while running – The Rest is Politics is a particular favourite, and the coaches at my gym always have excellent playlists for classes to keep me motivated.

“The Tough Mudder is very much the sort of challenge where the objective is to finish rather than getting a specific time, and people are generally happy to help each other out and make sure everyone gets round in one piece. I’m hoping my team won’t mind too much if I am the slow, weak one!”

Encouraging others to take on a Move for Momentum challenge, Kat said: “You don’t have to do anything extreme (unless mud is your thing too!). Whether it is walking, dancing, swimming, or stretching, how you move doesn’t matter – why you move does. Let’s get moving this September and make sure no family faces the unimaginable alone.”
