A Momentum supported family enjoy a respite break

Whether it’s a few days away from the stress of treatment, or precious time out in a peaceful setting, Momentum’s respite cabins and riverboat breaks provide a safe haven close to home.

The Community Foundation of Surrey coordinates a large number of local funds on behalf of 85 fund holders, matching the funds to all the worthwhile charities operating in Surrey.

Sarah Woods, CEO at Momentum Children’s Charity said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Community Foundation for Surrey for making this grant to help fund much needed breaks on our riverboat and at our cabins for some of our supported families. We know just how valued respite breaks are to families going through very tough times, and we rely on the generous support from Foundations, Trusts, individual donors, and others to be able to cover the cost of these.”

Clare, from Woking, Surrey, stayed at one of our cabins with her husband and two sons. She said: “We have had breaks at Momentum’s respite cabins. They became a safe place for us as they were close to hospitals, and it was nice to be away but also know that you are not too far from home. When George was going through his treatment, it was hard to plan anything much or be too extravagant just in case we were unable to go and couldn’t get our money back.”

Another mum who stayed at our cabin in the New Forest said: “I stayed at Momentum’s cabin on the weekend that marked the first anniversary of my daughter’s death, and I knew I didn’t want to be at home. I needed a break to try and look after my mental health and it really helped me to go somewhere different, particularly at this time. It felt good to be away, to have a bit of escapism and a chance to decompress.”

One family who recently enjoyed a trip on our riverboat said: “We have been in a tough patch lately with lots going wrong and the magic of the river trip plus the fun and peace of the stay really helped us recalibrate and look forward with a more positive mindset.”
