Bridge players gather for a day of games and refreshments.

“I first came across Momentum Children’s Charity when I spotted their boat on the River Thames in Kingston. After learning more about the incredible work they do to support local families, I knew they would be a truly deserving beneficiary for our Café Bridge event.

I really enjoy organising the Café Bridge events – it is incredibly rewarding to know we are supporting local causes. What started as a small hobby has now grown into quite the fundraising venture, and I now spend up to 20 hours a week planning and coordinating the events.

Last year, we held thirteen charity events, and this year, we have almost doubled that number with twenty-five! Three of these are proudly raising funds for Momentum. Each event typically welcomes around 150 attendees, with ticket prices ranging from £70 to £110 depending on the chosen café or restaurant for lunch. The ticket includes a delicious meal and a full day of bridge, all in support of a great cause.

A typical Café Bridge event begins at 11am, with three rounds of bridge played before lunch and another three in the afternoon, finishing around 4pm. Each round takes place in a different café or restaurant, giving players the chance to enjoy a variety of venues throughout the day. We also hold a raffle to raise additional funds.

Over the years, players have made generous one-off donations, which is a lovely reminder of just how kind people can be. I hope to keep organising Café Bridge events for years to come – if people are still enjoying them and we are raising lots of money, why stop?”

The next Café Bridge event in East Molesey is on Wednesday 3 December. Pre-register now by emailing michael@cafebridge.org
