The nine-day event at the end of last year, saw Cathy and three of her friends ride a total of 450km (280 miles) through tough terrain in very humid conditions, with temperatures reaching a whopping 33 degrees!

As well as the challenge ticking off something on Cathy’s bucket list, she was raising money for two charities close to her heart, one of which was Momentum. Cathy has known about the charity for many years, after her friends very sadly lost their 11-year-old daughter to cancer. The family were supported by Momentum and they still raise money for us, many years later.

Cathy Woodall said: “This really was a challenge like no other – it required six months of training to build up base fitness and stamina resilience. Training included long-distance cycling, walking, running, swimming, HITT workouts, Pilates and weights.

“The challenge itself was amazing! We weaved our way around the sights, sounds, and smells, immersing ourselves in the culture and people across two beautiful countries, seeing places I’d never visited before. Personal highlights included visiting Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong River, Angkor Wat, and Siem Reap. I have memories that will last a lifetime. Sixty keen cyclists were part of this organised trip and although it was incredibly tough, the camaraderie of the group was so special that we all made it through to the end!

“I really enjoy raising money for charities that I have a personal connection with. I attend annual fundraising events organised by my friends Ann and Jeff Brown who sadly lost their lovely daughter. Momentum is a local charity which has come to mean a lot to me.”

Cathy has raised more than £2,000 through her fundraising, half of which has been donated to Momentum to help us be there to support more families with seriously ill children. Thank you, Cathy!
