Determination on display at London Landmarks Half Marathon
- Family support workers
We couldn’t be prouder of our 16 runners, who spent months preparing for race day with real commitment and determination. Each person had their own reason for supporting Momentum- something that kept them motivated every step of the way as they took on the route, passing some of London’s most famous landmarks. Highlights included the Shard, Tower of London, The Gherkin, and a victorious finish under Nelson’s Column at Trafalgar Square.
Amber, from Kent, was part of a team of 9, all running for Momentum. She said: “It was an incredible day, with an amazing atmosphere and the spectators were just brilliant. I got a knee injury at mile 10 but I managed to make it to the finish line. It meant a lot to see the cheer team from Momentum as we made our way around the route – it really helped keep us going. As a team, we have raised £5,625 which we are really pleased with.”
Talking about her reasons for running for Momentum, Amber said: “My daughter, Primrose, was diagnosed with leukaemia last January and Momentum supported us through everything. Our Family Support Workers were amazing and were the reason we decided to take on this challenge. Whenever I would see someone in a Momentum green t-shirt at the hospital, I would breathe a sigh of relief – having someone impartial and non-medical made such a difference. It was important to us to support a smaller charity. Primrose is doing really well now, she is back at school, having playdates, and is full of energy again.”
Belinda from Farnham, Surrey, also ran for Momentum, completing the run in a very impressive one hour and 45 minutes. Belinda said: “I absolutely loved running for Momentum, a cause that is very close to my heart. The atmosphere on the day was electrifying with the London crowds cheering us on, and I came fourth in my age category! I ran with my niece Emma which was extra special – a day I won’t forget. The cheer squad from Momentum were there at the start and finish which meant a lot. I would love to run for Momentum again.”
Our team of amazing runners have already brought in nearly £14,000 for Momentum which is incredible, and donations are still coming in. Every contribution is making a meaningful difference to families we are supporting across Surrey, Sussex and London.
