Jason West’s daughter Holly,13, was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS), a soft tissue cancer last year, when she was just 12 years old.

The family heard about Momentum when they were given a leaflet at St. George’s Hospital and we were then introduced to one of their Family Support Workers at The Royal Marsden Hospital.  Jason West said:

“I wanted to do this walk to raise money for Momentum as a thank you to the charity for the support they have given to my family. Holly has been able to go away for short breaks and have days out, which has made her feel like a normal teenager, giving her confidence and bringing a smile to her face.”

Jason continued: “Holly is taking things one day at a time, with the continued support of her family and friends. She has recently started to go back to watch Brentford FC play their home games with me and her brother Will – this has meant the world to me.”

Holly and Will joined Jason to see him off at the start of his challenge, and 11 of his friends joined him at different parts of his walk, with two completing the full distance. Jason made his way through Ashford, Sunbury, Walton, and Great Bookham before reaching Dorking at the end of day one. Lacing up his boots once again for day two, Jason ambled through Beare Green and Horsham, finishing at Dial Point. Jason’s final day saw him complete 16 miles, reaching the finish line at Brighton Pier, where he was greeted by his partner Julie, and a huge group of friends and family, including those that had walked with him.

As well as emotional support, Momentum has provided the West family with practical support, including information on grants and help with applying for Holly’s Disability Living Allowance (DLA).

Holly’s cancer treatment has included intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy sessions, and earlier this year she started a 12-month programme of maintenance chemotherapy.

There is still time to sponsor Jason for his challenge here
