Children's nurses from The Royal Marsden with Lucy, a Family Support Worker from Momentum

Momentum’s Family Support team work alongside children’s nurses and other healthcare professionals at our NHS partner hospitals across London, Surrey and Sussex to make hospital experiences feel more manageable for families.

Talking about the role of children’s nurses, Lucy Stafford, a Family Support Worker at Momentum said: “The children’s nurses at the hospitals we work with do a brilliant job. Their work is intense and often emotionally demanding, but they always take the time to build strong relationships with families and make situations as positive as possible. Even when children are going through incredibly difficult treatment, they provide care, compassion and reassurance every step of the way.”

Highlighting how Momentum and the children’s nurses at our partner hospitals work together, Lucy said: “Our roles are different, but they complement each other perfectly. While the nurses are focused on providing specialist care to children who are unwell, our role is to support the whole family emotionally and practically. By working closely together, we can provide more holistic care and ensure families receive the support they need at every stage. This National Children’s Nurses Day, we would like to thank all the children’s nurses – we are incredibly grateful to work alongside them and support the vital work they do.”

Touching on the relationships that children’s nurses have with Momentum, Corrinne Melian, Pediatric Family Liaison Nurse from Kingston and Richmond NHS Foundation Trust said: “Momentum is a true lifeline – the way the team steps in to support families is nothing short of remarkable. Their presence on the wards makes an extraordinary difference, offering continuity, emotional support, and reassuring, friendly faces.”

A huge thank you to each and every children’s nurse for everything you do!
