Capturing the moment
- Bereavement support
Participants were invited to capture one photo each day, over the course of a week, inspired by themes such as ‘a smile’, ‘the colour yellow’, ‘your favourite place’, and ‘your person’.
We were delighted that seven siblings, supported by Momentum Echoes, took part in the competition. Their photos were shared on our website, where people could vote for the images that resonated most with them. They were also printed and displayed in our office window in the lead-up to Christmas.
The photograph that resonated most with our supporters, was submitted by 11-year-old Oliver, from London. The image was of Oliver with his dog, and the theme for this particular photo was ‘a smile’.
Describing how Oliver reacted when he was told that his photo had resonated most with people, his mum, Laura said: “He’s blown away. He said he feels like he is in a dream this evening.”
Touching on when Oliver received the camera, his mum, Laura said: “Oliver loves the camera! He has used his pocket money to buy a scrap book to stick the photos in.”
Charlotte Roberts from our Momentum Echoes team said: “Thank you to all the siblings who took part in our photography challenge – creativity, love and care shone through in every image. Photos can play an important role in helping us to hold on to memories of the people we love, and this challenge created a beautiful collection of moments that we know will be treasured for years to come.”
All Grief Awareness Week activities, resources and the Polaroid camera prize were funded by our corporate partner, AMS Media. A big thank you to them for their generosity and ongoing support.
