A family day to remember at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground
- Family trips and experiences
The Family Fun Day gave everyone the chance to get active, try something new and enjoy the outdoors. Activities ranged from cricket coaching and yoga to woodland bushcraft, which included shelter building and fire-lighting. Every activity was adapted to suit different ages and abilities, meaning everyone could take part, whatever their experience or confidence level. There was also time to rest, have lunch, and simply enjoy being outside with family.
Noah, 9, from Worthing, attended the Fun Day with his mum. Talking about the day, he said: “The cricket was incredible, I really liked batting. I have only played cricket at school before, so it was nice to play in an actual cricket club with actual cricket people. I learnt how to bat the right way and how to bowl properly – to eat an apple, windmill my arm and then let go. When batting, I hit a few wickets and got close to hitting a big score.”
Noah’s mum, Natasha said: “It was an excellent day and such a treat to be able to spend time with Noah doing activities we wouldn’t normally do. The setting was wonderfully picturesque, and our favourite, Amy, our Family Support Worker from Momentum was on hand for any issues. The Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation staff were also incredible, helpful and hands-on, tailoring each activity to everybody’s needs.”
Natasha continued: “My favourite activity on the day was doing yoga overlooking the South Downs, with Noah, Annie from Momentum, myself, and the yoga instructor in such a peaceful and naturally beautiful setting. At one point me and Noah were lying on the grass, focusing on our breathing and he reached over and held my hand, it was a very special moment, and it brought us closer together. Being able to experience different activities that are organised by Momentum is always a good day out in our family. When Noah was in treatment, cricket was far from our minds, but he was able to join in, give it his all and enjoy himself. He has found a sport he thoroughly enjoyed which he wouldn’t easily be able to access previously.”
A huge thank you to everyone at Arundel Castle Cricket Foundation for hosting such a special and memorable day for our supported families. We would also like to extend our thanks to forest school leader Stuart, yoga instructor Megan, and the cricket team, led by Nick, for making the day so enjoyable.
