Sandy, from Chertsey, has been volunteering for Momentum for a number of years. Sandy and her family were supported by the charity when her son, Manav, was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma in 2019. Manav received treatment at St. Peter’s and at The Royal Marsden hospitals, where they were introduced to Momentum.

Sandy said: “Our Family Support Worker from Momentum was amazing – he got through to our son in a way that no one else could. Thankfully Manav made a full recovery and was clear of cancer at the beginning of 2020. I knew that I wanted to give something back to Momentum, and that was when I started fundraising. I took on the 100-mile challenge and organised a quiz night, raising £1,500. Since then, I have volunteered at a number of different events in Surrey, including The Dragon Boat Race and at various bucket collections.

Talking about how she came up with the idea to organise a donation of Easter eggs, Sandy said: “I know first-hand how tight money can be when families have a child going through cancer treatment. I told my husband I wanted to make a difference, and we came up with the idea of collecting Easter eggs. We sent a message to family and friends and had 50 eggs donated! We recognise that sometimes, unintentionally, siblings can get a bit left behind when there is a another child in the family who is very unwell, so it is nice for them to be recognised too. This is the second year we have organised the Easter egg donation and we hope to make it an annual tradition.”
