About Momentum
100-word summary (Standard Press Release Boilerplate)
Momentum Children’s Charity supports families across Surrey, Sussex, London and other parts of the southeast, whose child has cancer or another life-challenging condition. Should the unthinkable happens, the charity’s bereavement support service, Momentum Echoes, is there to support families through their grief. Partnering with local NHS hospitals, Momentum provides tailored support to the entire family, including parents, siblings, and grandparents for as long as needed. Services range from Family Support Workers to organising counselling, creative therapies, and respite breaks on Momentum’s riverboat and holiday cabins. The charity also refurbishes paediatric wards and rooms to create more welcoming hospital environments.
Our Mission & Vision
Mission: To support families facing childhood cancer, serious illness and bereavement, for as long as needed.
Vision: No family with a seriously ill child or family that has experienced the death of a child should have to cope alone.
Core Commitment: Momentum is there for the whole family, including children, parents, siblings and grandparents, offering personally tailored support for as long as it is needed.
Overview of our services
Family Support Workers: From the moment a family is referred by one of Momentum’s partner hospitals, the Family Support Team is there to help, both in hospital and at home, every step of the way.
Bereavement Support: Momentum Echoes is the charity’s dedicated bereavement support service. The team comes alongside families whose child has died, for as long as they need.
Family Wellbeing: The charity offers a wide range of services including counselling and creative therapies, tailored to support the emotional and mental health of the whole family.
Social Work Service: The charity offers specialist social work provision to any families requiring enhanced practical advice and support.
Respite Breaks: Getting away on Momentum’s Thames riverboat or in one of their holiday cabins near the coast, provides precious time together in a safe, supportive environment away from the stress of treatment.
Family Trips and Experiences: Momentum organises day trips and experiences to help give families a much-needed break and the chance to create happy memories.
