Our vision
We’re passionate about helping as many families as we can to keep moving forward, and our vision is that no family with a seriously ill child or that has experienced the death of a child should have to cope alone.

Our mission
Our mission is to support families facing childhood cancer, serious illness and bereavement, for as long as needed.
Our focus
- Enhanced family support resources in our partner hospitals to meet existing and anticipated future demand, particularly in Sussex, reflecting our growing support for families from Kent and across the wider South East.
- Evolving our family support model to provide dedicated hospital and community teams across Surrey, Sussex and London, alongside tailored remote and hospital-based support for families from Kent and the wider South East.
- Collaboration with other charities avoiding duplication of service offering
- Growing specialist social work support and bereavement services
- Growth of volunteer pool to support our community efforts
Our strategic goals
With input from children and families, our network of therapy providers, our partners in local NHS hospitals, our team and the wider community, we have identified six key strategic goals over the next three years.
- Committed to supporting over 700 families with a child with a cancer of life-challenging condition and extending our specialist bereavement support offering annually by 2027
- Create bespoke Hospital and Community Family Support roles providing exemplary, consistent and robust service of support for families and clinical partnerships
- Increase support time for families in their communities
- Formalised hybrid support offering for families in an expanded geographical catchment, beyond London, Surrey and Sussex
- Provision of weekend, monthly, ward family support for long term in patients (Royal Marsden and St George’s)
- Planned response to change of location of Primary Treatment Centre (PTC) from The Royal Marsden to Evelina Children’s Hospital
- Evidence and plan for expansion of our eight hospital partnerships beyond three years into expanded geographical catchment under the PTC
- Continued provision of therapeutic wellness sessions, in line with need, and respite breaks and trips
- Improved accessibility for our respite cabins, replacing one with a more suitable option
- Invest in new beach hut provision, with consideration given to environmental factors
- Dedicated social work support service improving accessibility to practical support
- Pilot Education Link Support Worker project in partnership with key clinical partners, improving how children and young adults are better supported holistically in school or further education around cancer, life-challenging conditions and bereavement
- Ongoing evaluation of outcomes collaborating with key stakeholders to quantify need and development of services
- Focus on ‘unique hero’ events with utilisation of collaborative partnerships for referrals to other events
- Reduction of hospital refurbishment projects to deliver two projects by 2027
- Discontinue distraction support on hospital wards with improved co-ordination of support for families through partnership work with organisations, avoiding duplication
- Established Clinical Advisory Board embedding clinical guidance into development of family support service delivery
- Invest in training for staff and volunteers
- Committed to improving inclusivity across our team and volunteers
- Increased volunteer support to 300+ by 2027
- Development of our ambassador programmes
- We aim to grow and diversify our income streams, ensuring we can fund our expanding support services and ambitious plans for the future.
Our three-year funding needs
Each of our goals is supported by a detailed operational plan. We will continue to regularly evaluate and measure our work, communicating updates in our impact and annual reports. Children and families are at the heart of all we do, and we will continue to listen to their voices to maximise our impact.
We rely entirely on voluntary donations, and are incredibly grateful to all our loyal supporters who continue to help fund our charitable activities, but our vision and ambitions need funds. It currently costs more than £1.35 million each year to provide our services to children and their families. We will continue to grow and diversify our fundraising to ensure we can sustain and develop our support for families in the years ahead.
We will be seeking funders to help cover the costs of our evolving model of family support delivery, specialist projects and family support services. We’re always delighted to hear from any individual or organisation who would like to be part of our long-term strategic vision – if this is you, please contact fundraising@momentumcharity.org
