Giving your time makes everything possible

There isn’t one part of what we do which hasn’t been made possible by the help of our volunteers. Whatever your skills, background or availability, we’re sure we have a volunteering role that’s just right for you.

As a Community Champion, you will be a passionate advocate for Momentum Children’s Charity in your local area. You’ll raise awareness, inspire others to get involved, and play a vital role in helping us build a growing network of community-led fundraising support. You’ll take ownership of local engagement and help drive income generation, working alongside a values-led charity team that is committed to making a real difference.

This is a brilliant opportunity to gain experience in charity promotion and community organising, with access to training, support, and the chance to grow your skills in a purposeful and flexible role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Social Media Advocacy: Share Momentum’s stories, campaigns, events and even job roles on your personal social media platforms.
  • Community Group Engagement: Help grow a network of supporters by encouraging the formation of a self-led Community Fundraising Group in your area. Taking the lead on organising and delivering at least two events (typically markets or fairs) per year.
  • Collection Tin Coordination: Place and monitor collection tins in local shops and venues, and collect donations (access to a car or ability to travel locally preferred).
  • Leafleting and Posters: Distribute leaflets and put up posters in local shops, schools, libraries, and community spaces.
  • Event Promotion: Help promote local fundraising events and initiatives, encouraging friends, family, and neighbours to take part.
  • Local Networking: Build relationships with local businesses, schools, and groups who may want to support the charity, and feeding leads back to the relevant teams at Momentum.
  • Feedback and Ideas: Share insights from your community with the team to help shape engagement strategy.

You will be responsible for handling and banking cash in line with the Fundraising Regulator and Momentum’s policies with training and oversight from the Community Fundraiser. Your contribution helps raise essential funds while also spreading awareness of Momentum and the work we do for local families.

  • Keeping the fundraising team informed of completed collections or any issues

If your company offers staff volunteer days, we would love to have you join us for a few hours, a day, or more. We have opportunities for teams and individuals. Please get in touch and help us to make a real difference for children.

Our events calendar is jam packed with a variety of different activities which need support to make them magic. Special events from comedy to carols, cheering loudly, bucket collecting, to marshalling and meeting and greeting, you can be part of the action.

We often also plan special treats for the families we support, treats which we like to deliver to doorsteps to help brighten days of children who are having to stay home. So, if you fancy being a delivery driver with a difference, this is just the ticket.

We are always on the lookout for event volunteers. Find more information about the role here.

We’re a small and friendly team who work closely together. From marketing to fundraising, family support to HR, we could always do with an extra pair of hands to help get things done.

Our boat, Moments on the River, is a firm favourite with our families, and it’s our volunteers who make it all happen. You could help with cleaning and preparation or even train up as a Skipper or Deck Hand.

What’s good for us, is good for you

Aside from the warm and fuzzies that giving your time to help others brings, there are lots of ways that volunteering with us can be enriching:

  • Developing new skills There’s a lot to be said to being able to have a go at doing different things, without long term commitment, and in hours that suit you.
  • Being a valued part of our team, as well as getting to know your local community better, and making new friends along the way.
  • Gaining practical work experience If you’re interested in working in the charity sector, volunteering can help you land your first job or a place at university.
