Waiting list appeal 2025 header image

Our commitment to families doesn’t stop after a few weeks or months – once a family is being supported by Momentum, we’re there for at least two years, often longer. This means it could take a long time for families to move off a waiting list.

The only way to change this is by expanding our team’s capacity, so that no family has to wait for the help they desperately need.

We urgently need your support to make this happen. Please donate to Momentum Children’s Charity today so that we can be there for every family who is referred to us, offering the practical and emotional care that they deserve.

With your help, we can reach more families, provide the expert support they need, and ensure no family faces this journey alone.

Together we can make a difference.

We are at full capacity. Even though our waiting list is short, families could be waiting for some time for our support. Once a family is taken on by Momentum, we commit to being there for them for the long term – usually at least two years, and often longer. That means that unless we can grow our team’s capacity, spaces won’t open up quickly, and more families will be left without the support they need.

While families await our services, they often rely on hospital support services, local community groups and other charities, all of whom are also incredibly stretched. Wherever possible, we will signpost families to other sources of support where we are unable to provide it, but this often means waiting longer than should be necessary for access to support.

Childhood cancer and other serious illnesses remain rare in the UK. We see approximately 1,900 new cases of cancer diagnosed annually in children aged under 14. Notably, this has increased by about 8% since the early 2000s. Meanwhile, incidences of life-challenging conditions has more than doubled since 2001.

Several factors are thought to have contributed to these increases, including improved diagnostic techniques, awareness of genetic factors and advancements in medical care that have extended the lives of children with such conditions.

We need to add capacity in our team to respond to the level of demand we are seeing for both our family support and bereavement services.

In particular, we would like to add dedicated community support workers to provide specialised care for families, ensuring they have tailored emotional and practical support when they need it most.

We’re at full capacity, and without urgent investment, families facing childhood cancer, other serious illnesses, or bereavement could be left waiting far too long for the support they need.

With £30,000, we could expand our family and bereavement support teams’ capacity so that no family has to struggle alone.
